F. Krauss |
The present industrial
development of the South is due to men who are willing to back their faith
In the up-building of their country with their brains and capital. To this
class of men Mr. F. Krauss, senior member of the firm of S. Krauss & Sons,
belongs. He was born in Europe, August 29, 1833, and came to America In
1852. In 1863 Mr. Krauss moved to Jefferson county and engaged in the
mercantile business. At the breaking out of the civil war he cast his lot
with the Confederacy and enlisted in Chas. Clark’s Rifles, of the Twelfth
Mississippi Regiment. He saw hard service In the Virginia campaign, having
been wounded at the battle of Seven Pines and captured and made prisoner
in the Wilderness fight. After the war Mr. Krauss returned to Fayette and
resumed the business which war had interrupted. In 1898 he formed a
partnership with his sons and his establishment is one of the most
flourishing ones in Jefferson County. Besides his mercantile interests, he
is identified with several of the industries of the county, and is a
Knight of Honor. |
